Averitt Express Trucking
Thurman Averitt founded in the Livingston Merchant Co-op in 1958 as a small trucking company that hauled dry goods, mostly from Nashville, Tennessee to Livingston, Tennessee and vice versa. It was only in 1969 that Thurman Averitt decided to incorporate his small company and call it Averitt Express.
While Turman was still working as a delivery man, he met a young dockworker named Gary Sasser. Gary happened to ask Thurman one day if he would be willing to sell his company. After taking some time to think about the offer, Thurman finally said yes. Gary purchased Averitt Express, which at that time consisted only of two associates, three tractors, and five trailers, in October 1971. Today, Averitt Express has grown to become one of the country’s leading freight transportation and supply chain management providers.
Over the years, Averitt Express has received numerous awards for their outstanding, first-class service they provide to each and every one of their clients. Examples of the awards the company has received include:
– Environmental Responsibility Awards:
o Inbound Logistics Magazine – Top Green Supply Chain Partner
o Tennessee Trucking Association – Clean Diesel Leadership Award

With so many economic uncertainties these days, the majority of customers would now ask about the financial stability of their transportation providers. This is because a sudden closing of a distribution partner could mean disaster for those who need them the most. Averitt Express is financially stable and is proud to day that they are: privately held; financially sound; motivated and stable; moving forward; proven; committed to service; and focused on conversation.
Whether it’s living for the open highways or the city streets, adventuring for days or coming home every night, Averitt will always have a position suited for truck drivers. Averitt Express offers jobs for Regional Truckload drivers, Dedicated/Supply Chain drivers, Dedicated Flex drivers, City drivers, or Shuttle drivers. Each of these types of driving jobs has its own benefits, kinds of pay, career advancement opportunities, as well as other pay items. When you are working in Averitt Express, you won’t feel that you are surrounded by co-workers, but rather with family.
Like every great company, one of the major reasons for their success is the people. As a way to give back to the community, Averitt Express created the Averitt Cares for Kinds, which is a non-profit charitable giving organization that’s funded by the company’s associates. For over 20 years, this organization has touched the lives of the less fortunate through the program.
