A Nebraska truck driving license is issued to those who are wishing to have a career in truck driving either intrastate or interstate.  The rules for acquiring this license are different now than it had been years ago.  Today, you have to meet the minimum requirements set by federal standards if you wish to work as a truck driver and you also have to renew your license every few years.  You also need to pass a knowledge and skills test for truck driving before you can be handed your CDL.

The Nebraska Department of Motor Vehicles is the agency which is responsible for the issuance of truck driving licenses in the state.  You will need to visit their office if you want to apply for this license. You can ask for their Nebraska Manual for Commercial Driver’s Licensing so you will be better prepared for the written exam.  You have to pass this exam first before you will be allowed to take the actual driving test as well as to earn your temporary permit.  Without the permit, you will not be able to take the driving test as well.

The first requirement for a truck driving license in Nebraska is your age.  You should be at least 18 years old upon application if you wish to drive intrastate, and 21 years old if you will be driving interstate. Some of the requirements that you will need to submit to the DMV are your current driver’s license, a DOT medical certification, visual exam, Social Security Number, and proof of legal residence in the state of Nebraska.  Aside from this, you must also have a clean driving record for at least the past 4 years.  Any conviction major traffic violations may render you incapable of applying for a CDL.

Once you have passed these requirements you will be given a written exam which you also have to pass.  This is why it is important to read the manual first before heading off to the DMV office.  If you pass the written exam, you will be given a temporary CDL permit which is valid for a few months.  With the permit, you can drive a truck provided you are accompanied by someone who has a valid license.  Make the most of this time period to learn everything about truck driving from checking it up to driving it in different types of terrain.

When you think that you are ready to take your driving test, you have to visit the DMV office and schedule your exam.  You may also be required to take your exam with a third party who can provide you with the type of truck that you need.  You will be tested on 3 different areas: pre-trip inspection, basic driving skills, and on-road testing.  It is important to pass each exam as you will not be able to take the next stage without passing the previous test first.  You will be given a Nebraska truck driving license if you are able to pass all of the said tests.
