Truck Driving Schools in Maryland
Before you can work as a commercial truck driver, you must have a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). The basic requirements for a Maryland CDL include the following:
• You must be at least 21 to drive beyond the borders of Maryland. Those from 18 to 21 years old are limited to applying for an interstate license.
• You must be 21 years of age or older to drive a commercial vehicle carrying hazardous materials.
• You must pass a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical examination and provide the examiner with a report or card.
• You must have a standard class driver’s license
• You must be able to provide proof of nationality or citizenship.
If you are able to meet all of the requirements, you will be able to apply and take the written exams. If you pass the written exam, you will be provided with a CDL Learner’s Permit. Applicants who feel that they are ready to take the next step may take the 3-part skills test that will be performed under professional supervision both on and off the road.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average salary of Maryland truck drivers is estimated to be around $41,560. A driver’s salary is dependent on how long they are on the road, their seniority, and the company that they work for. It is a good idea to make some comparisons between the different industries that are of interest to applicants before working.
